Peaceful Conflict Resolution

Conflict and litigation can be disruptive and costly, especially in divorce and family matters where they are often overwhelming. When emotions run high and the challenges are complex a skilled professional mediation process may be the answer at a fraction of the cost of hiring an attorney.

Are you ready to take control of the conflict and your life as you negotiate a fair settlement peacefully, efficiently and affordably?

Put my expertise, extensive training and years of experience to work for you here in the Stockton and Modesto areas.

Who Can Benefit from My Mediation Process?

Time-crunched Professionals

There is no need for you to schedule trips to court. The virtual divorce mediation process timeline moves more efficiently since you control the scheduling and are not at the mercy of court and opposing attorneys’ schedules. You can avoid taking a day off work by setting up a virtual mediation session while you are at your office or on your lunch break.

Those In High-conflict Relationships

The structure of virtual divorce mediation can allow you  and your spouse to communicate and negotiate directly and yet stay physically apart during the process. This enables you to get efficent resolution with less drama, emotional upheaval or friction.

Busy Parents

Raising children can keep parents running 24/7. Using virtual divorce mediation, it’s much easier to maintain your current obligations as a parent since scheduling is so much easier since you control the scheduling. I have held virtual mediation sessions with one or both parties participating from one room while their children play or do homework in another room.

Those In Different Locations

Have you or your spouse moved to a different city since your separation? If so, virtual divorce mediation can save you time and money. Commute times can be brutal from places like Tracy to Modesto or Stockton; Virtual Divorce Mediation allows you to avoid all of that traffic.

Steps In My Mediation Process

  • Setting Up the Process

I will speak with you in person, either together or separately according to your preference. I’ll answer any questions about the process. You both decide you would like to try mediation, and you are choosing me as your mediator. I answer any questions about the meaning of divorce mediation and about divorce mediation costs.

  • Mediation Sessions

My mediation sessions are typically two hours long, and this is where we begin. Mediation sessions are conducted in person but we can use conference calls, videoconferencing, and email to manage the process. Depending on the issues involved, we may solve the entire case in one session or only focus on the most time-critical matters.

  • Gathering Information

You may need to organize data for some aspects of your case. This might involve disclosing documentation and other background data to one another (if you haven’t already done so) about current values of your assets (e.g., cars, homes, retirement accounts), credit card balances, mortgage amounts, and etc.

  • Creating Documents

At some point, you will decide to file the legal paperwork for a divorce. My services are a la carte.  After the papers are filed, when they are returned by the Court I serve both parties and that commences the “interlocutory” six-month waiting period before a divorce can become final.

  • Court Approval

Legal paperwork for an uncontested divorce gets drafted and circulated electronically so that you  can sign it and return it to me. I then compile all of this and submit it to the Court for the Judge to approve it. From this point forward, all that remains is for the legally mandated waiting period to pass and the divorce is final. You never need to appear in Court.

What Clients Say About My Mediation Process

I would definitely recommend you to anyone going through a divorce. You made the transition of the end of our long term marriage go smoothly….you were very helpful in all our questions and issues we couldn’t deal with on our own.

H.M.

In my divorce, my ex had moved out of state and we used John as our mediator via phone and email. He did a very good job at helping us maintain progress on a number of complex issues that needed to be resolved so that we ended things amicably and fairly.

Laura H.

With John’s skillful mediation and diligence, we quickly moved through the final stages of our divorce process; support, house buyout, visitation and so forth, We had a final agreement reviewed and signed within 3 weeks of retaining John’s services.

B. R.

John Butler is a professional mediator who I trust completely. Two women in my life who are very dear personal friends were attempting to negotiate divorce settlements with their spouses. Each situation included a great deal of emotional turmoil, the litigation costs were staggering and the situation had reached an ugly stalemate.
